    Abstract:

Based on the newest surveying data and combined with the regional tectonic setting, this paper makes a research on the North Yellow Sea Meso-Cenozoic basin type using the analytical method and distinguishing criteria of basin type. Founded on the evidence about basin-margin facies, sediment thinning, area and form of basin, vitrinite reflectance of sediments, etc., the North Yellow Sea Meso-Cenozoic basin presented nowadays isn’t considered a residual basin. By comprehensive analysis of developed three structural layers, petroleum system in their style, polycyclic activities of marginal faults, migration of Meso-Cenozoic sedimentation center, different basin structures in different basining period, and vertical stacking about two terms extension basining and one term depression basining, etc., the North Yellow Sea Meso-Cenozoic basin is made certain the Superimposed basin.
