Prof. Cheng Yuqi(Y. C. Cheng), a famous geologist, an expert in management of geological science and technology and one of the pioneers of China's modern geoscience, passed away at the age of 90 at 16: 06 hours on January 2, 2002 in Beijing as a result of the worsening of his condition after he fell ill and despite medical treatment. Cheng was born in Jiashan County, Zhejiang Province, on October 7, 1912.
