Abstract:The German geologist Friedrich Solger was born in Berlin in Germany in 1877 and obtained his doctoral degree at the University of Berlin in 1902. He was professor at the University of Beijing from 1910 to 1913, and carried out geological exploration in China. In 1914, he went to Qingdao to attend the war between Germany and Japan. After being captured, he became a prisoner in Matsuyama and Bandō in Japan and went back to Germany in 1920. From 1921 on, he was appointed as professor at the University of Berlin. He died in East Berlin in 1965. Solger did important contributions to the geology of Germany and China.
