    Abstract:

In this paper, the authors describe the evolution process of sedimentary basins quantitatively by the wave principle and wave equation.Based on the deducing approach, the primary deposition rate can be restored revived from the drilling and well logging data. The resuIt obtained is an om— regular curve which changes with the geological age. By means of the sliding—window,a series of cyclic wave cures can be decomposed step by step, and the cycle and amplitude can be calculated; then the wave equations describing the deposition rate can be set up.From these equations the deposition and erosion processes of the deeper part or its vicinity, where strata data are un— known, can be predicted, and the erosion thickness can be calculated and the evolutionary history of the basin can be restored in detail.A case study on western Siberia is given in this paper.
