Abstract:Under the comprehensive implementation of China' s innovation- driven development strategy and the accelerated advancement of new- era geological work, geological science popularization efforts can contribute to geological science and technology innovation while enhancing the public' s geoscience literacy. Methods: This paper provides a systematic and objective analysis of the evolving environment for geoscience popularization, highlighting the achievements in science popularization of CGS, arguing that it faces new tasks and challenges in the new era while possessing unique industry strengths. It emphasizes the need to acknowledge both the achievements and shortcomings of past geoscience popularization efforts and to scientifically plan pathways and practical measures for its innovation- driven development. Results: Under the new era background, we can achieve high- level science popularization empowering high- quality scientific and technological development only by adhering to rigorous systematic theoretical research, scientifically accessible content development, popular science approaches that delight audiences, and scaled orderly dissemination services. Conclusions: Scientific innovation and popularization are the two wings driving innovative development. The geological industry units must collaborate closely, engage in prudent planning and steadfast execution, and coordinate efforts across multiple dimensions to advance geoscience popularization. By synergizing the popularization of geological knowledge with scientific innovation, we can more effectively improve the public service capacity of geological information and contribute to elevating citizens' scientific literacy.
