Abstract:Urban geological survey is a key to assist urban planning, construction and administration. Jiangsu has pioneered urban geological survey covering all prefecture- level cities in China. It has formed the working mechanisms, methods, patterns and results with Jiangsu characteristics. However, it can’t fully support government management on natural resources. The successes and deficiencies of urban geological survey in Jiangsu Province are discussed comprehensively. A new work system of urban geological survey is constructed considering government management on natural resources. The system consists of multi- scale three- dimensional geological survey, multi- element natural resource survey, multi- system ecological geological survey, multi- dimensional underground space evaluation, construction of the resource and environment observation network for monitoring, and platform for geological data managements and services. Some new thoughts on the future working of urban geological survey are proposed, such as serving the national land space planning more accurately, establishing the open and shared platform for geological big data, promoting “geological +” transformation and application for government administration, and pursuing the geological prospects in the post industrial era..
