Abstract:Anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) can reveal preferred alignment of various magnetic minerals and be used for inferring flow velocity and direction. Presently, the study of AMS on sedimentary microfacies is rare. Here we conducted a high resolution AMS research on sedimentary facies in the eastern Taiergou section and found the facies display different charaters on AMS. For high hydrodynamic sedimentary microfacies, such as river mouth bar, subaqueous distributary channels, et al., they have high susceptibility value and anisotropy degree; for lower hydrodynamic sedimentary microfacies, such as inter distributary bays, natural levee, et al., they have lower susceptibility value and anisotropy degree; for static water sedimentary microfacies, such as prodelta, swamps, et al., they have lowest susceptibility value and anisotropy degree. Based on the χ—P correlation coefficient of microfacies, the section can be divided into two stages. In the depth of 7.8~90m, their χ—P correlation coefficients are positive, while in the depth of 90~130m, theirχ—P correlation coefficients are almost negative. As similar with the result from Haojiatai and Donggutuo section, the maximum susceptibility axes of microfacies in this study are mostly oriented to the NNE and NNW, indicating the material and the water flow possibly come from east or south west.
