Abstract:Situated in the eastern segment of the Qinling orogenic belt, Henan Province has a tectonic evolution history of as long as more than 3 billion years. Because tectonic movements (plate subduction and collision) were very complex and magmatism was strong, granite of different types and origins are very well developed and very widely exposed. In Henan outcrops of granite over 14,5000km2, accounting for 8.7% of the total area of the province, 32.2% of the area of the bedrock area and over 36.2% of the granite area(40, 000km2) of the whole Qinling—Dabie orogenic belt; so Henan is China's famous region where granite is densely distributed. According to the Henan granite and its different rock types the authors well reveal and deduce backward each particular stage of tectonic evolution of the East Qinling plate and magmatic dynamic process. Study indicates that granite geomorphology in Henan is unique in its own way. Throughout Henan up to six statelevel and provinciallevel geoparks and more than 20 scenic spots with granite as the theme are distributed. The characteristics of the Henan granite landscapes may be summarized as four words: magnificent, precipitous, grotesque and fantastic. The geology and geomorphology of granite in Henan have been a new, important natural resource. Granite geomorphological landscapes in Henan may fall into nine types, which were mainly formed by internal and external geological agencies. Tectonic movements, granite joint systems, rock textures and structures, water erosion and weathering are basic factors responsible for the formation of granite landscapes. They have yielded significant economic benefits and made contributions to the human civilization, economy and society.
