Abstract:This paper brieflv reviews the use of natural geological analogues in assessments of the safety function of the nuclear waste disposal system. The study of geological analogues is one of the important methods for safety assessments of the radioactive waste repository. It will be a new field for geological research in China. Important natural geological analogues are volcanic glass and meteoric glass(anal-ogues of solidified mass), clay minerals (natural analogues of backfill material), iron meteorite and copper deposits (natural analogues of waste containers), natural nuclear reactors, uranium deposits, iron deposits containing Th and REE and contact zones between igneous rocks and other rocks (natural geochemical analogues of HLW repository). Finally, the author puts forward some suggestions for the research on natural geological analogues in China.
