Abstract:The middle-lower Yangtze metallogenic belt is a intra-continental belt dominated by Yanshannian Mineralization. The iron ore deposits are mainly found either in volcanic-sedimendary basin and related genetically to the intrusion of intermediate to mafic magma and slightly alkaline magma, or locate in the uplift area and the transitional zone of uplift and subside. Based on the investigation of regional metallogenic background, the iron ore types are subdivided and some factors might affect the breakthrough in iron deposits prospecting are also pointed out. According to the progresses in deep-iron deposits prospecting, the similarities and differences in iron mineralization in Ningwu and Luzong volcanic-sedimendary basins, along with some issues might be confronted with in deep-iron ore prospecting are discussed. It is suggested that the deep-iron prospecting in this area should focus on the floor of the sedimentary basin and transitional zone of the basin and uplift areas. Looking for Daye-type Cu-Fe, Tongling-type Fe-Cu and porphyry Cu deposits are the main prospecting targets in the future work.
