Many doubts still exist on the stratigraphic zonation and correlation in Hefei Basin due to its complex tectonic evolution and the lack of paleontological data. This paper established new stratigraphical sequences based on seismic sequences, evidence from biostratigraphy and lithology and regional tectonic movements. The following are proposed: (1) The Middle Jurassic Zhougongshan Formation and Yuantongshan Formation are classified to Yuantongshan Formation due to their similar lothological, geophysical and paleontological features, which could be respectively taken as the upper and lower parts of Yuantongshan Formation. (2) The Zhuxiang Formation and Heishidu Formation are contemporaneous difference facies in different places, and are in the Upper Jurassic stratum. (3) The Xiangdaopu Formation is the stratum of the Lower Cretaceous. (4) The Dingyuan Formation and Qijiaqiao Formation are contemporaneous difference facies in different places, and are in the Tertiary stratum. These new recognitions provide a guideline for stratigraphical study in Hefei Basin, stratigraphical sequence determination in immature exploration areas and tectonic evolution study of Dabieshan orogen and Tan-Lu fault zone.
