Abstract:The Wushi- Aksu area, located in the Northwest margin of the Tarim Craton, preserves one of the few Precambrian blue schist terranes in the world that are well- preserved and well- substantiated. According to the previous researches, the blue schist terrane in the Aksu area experienced four phases of deformation during and after the subduction and exhumation of the blue schists terrane. Nonetheless, no research on tectonic deformation characteristics of blue schist terrane in the Wushi area has been undertaken. In this paper, we performed systematic observation, measurement, analysis and comparison on tectonic deformation characteristics of the blue schist terrane from both the Aksu and Wushi areas. We concluded that tectonic deformation characteristics of the blue schist terrane from both areas are basically the same, and can both be divided into four phases. Meanwhile, there are some differences between the blue schist terrane from the Aksu and Wushi areas in terms of details within each phase. Furthermore, based on the latest chronological data from previous researches, we constrain the chronological framework of each phase of deformation. The first phase was ca. 754~750 Ma, which was closely related to the high- pressure and low- temperature metamorphism, and was the result of the subduction of the blue schist terrane. The second phase was a little later than the first phase and its formation should be closely related to the reentry process of the blue schist terrane. The third phase should be earlier than the invasion time of the mafic dykes and later than the second phase, that is, between ca. 750~745 Ma, which was the result of the subduction of the northern margin of the Tarim Craton under circum- Rodinia subduction system. The youngest stratum involved in the fourth phase is Permian, which may be related to the closure of the ancient Tianshan Ocean or the collision and accretion of different terranes in Mesozoic—Cenozoic to the southern edge of the Asian plate.
