Key geoheritage resources and the exploration of developing model in Yichang,Hubei Province

    Abstract:

    This article systematically summarizes the geoheritage resources at the provincial level and above in Yichang area, Hubei Province.It is indicated that the distribution of geoheritages in Yichang has two typical characteristics.The first one is various physiognomy landscape relics,influenced by comprehensive function of topography and river;the second one is kinds of stratigraphic sections and paleontological fossil localities are identified in different geological time.Among these geoheritages,five world-class Geological relics sites are recognized,which are the Ediacara biota in the Three Gorges area,the Qingjiang biota from the early Cambrian of Changyang,the Huanghuachang section in Yichang (the Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point(GSSP) of the base of the Middle Ordovician Series),the Wangjiawan section in Yichang (the GSSP for the Hirnantian Stage of the Ordovician System)and the Nanzhang—Yuan’an fauna of the Early Triassic of Yuan’an. One thing they all have in common is that "paleontological fossils" play an important role within them. Based on this,the research details the fossil representatives, scientific and popular science significance of these relics.For developing model of these geoheritages,it is thought that five aspects could be identified as priorities,including geoheritage protection and application,geoheritage carriers,study tour,the spread of geological culture and the development of cultural creative product.It is what is to be expected as they will provide new channels for tourism exploitation of geoheritages of Yichang.
