Abstract:The rockforming depth of high pressure—ultrahigh pressure metamorphic rocks has been studied and debated for a long time. Writer tries to do some review and comments for it and gives some views and suggestions in this paper. Writer is in the opinion that ①the view that UHP rocks are formed in crust depth may be more reasonable, because of existence of the tectonic additional pressure; ②the method for calculating rockforming depth should be improved in theory and practical use; ③up to now there is no sufficient evidence to refute the view that UHP rocks are formed in mantle depth owing to the continental subduction;and ④geologists with different views should pay more attention to reasonable parts of dissenters′academic ideas to develop the research in this field by cooperation each other.
