    Abstract:

The studying of mesoscopic structures in China has developed from the simple geometrical description of single structural elements to a synthetical analysis of regional structures from the viewpoint of multiple scales, levers, regimes and generations of structures in recent 50 years. The main progresses in the studying of mesoscopic structural geology in recent years are as follows: the systematic analysis of geometry and orientation of structures; the application of quantitative analysis and the principle of balance in structural analysis; the studying of the rheology of crust and the mechanical analysis to regime analysis of regional structures. The cooperation of multiple braches, such as geophysics, geochemistry, geochronology and metamorphic geology, has greatly promoted the studying of mesoscopic structures. The theoretical system and methods of the analytical structural geology are preliminarily formed. The shortcoming and directions of improvement of structural studying have also been pointed out.
