    Abstract:

Some concepts about turbidity currents and their relative gravity flows are introduced, and then a brief review about the history of the study of turbidity currents is made, from which a summary of its recent advances is obtained. The characteristics of turbidites are summarized, and their genetic explanation is also proposed. Finally, two arguable problems, the subdivision of tur-bidite facies and its depositional models are discussed.
