    Abstract:

Using metamorphic core complex (MCC) models, many geologists interpret the tectonic framework featuring the basement dome and the basin-and-range tectonics in western Henan in the postorogenic stage. But the morphological features, machnism, timing and denuded crustal layer of the basement dome in this region do not display the features of the MCC. The down-faulted basin accompanying the basement dome is different from the half-graben in the MCC model also. Additionally, the unconformity surface between the cover Xiong'er Group and the basement Taihua Group in this region cannot be determined as the detachment fault plane either. Based on the above, this paper questions the validity of the assertion that "MCCs existed in western Henan in the postorogenic stage".
