While previous research was focused on the tectonics of Karamailisuture zone, the detailed research on the stratigraphy and sedimentology was totally overlooked, especially the Devonian stratum, which has a close relation with the orogenesisin Karamaili. Based on the systematic geological survey on the biostratigraphy, detrital zircon dating and sedimentology work, relatively complete stratigraphic sequences from Silurian to early Carboniferous stage were set up in the study area. Our results show that the Devonian strata documented the transitionof ocean andbasin range. The sedimentaryevolution of the Karamaili Formation (from Lower to Middle Devonian) changed from deepwater facies to shallowwater facies, which indicated the Karamaili ocean basin did not close during early to middle Devonian stage. Furthermore, the discovery of molasse structure developed in Keankuduke Formation of upper Devonian revealed a typical origin of intercontinental collision and orogeneyoccurred in the late Devonian age.  Thereafter the early Carboniferous strata entered the intraplate sedimentary stage. This research revealed the time of Karamaili orogenesis occurred in the late Devonian instead of the previous early Carboniferous.
