Abstract:The genesis of the “porphyroclastic lava”, principal rock of the Xiangshan complex in the central Jiangxi Province, has been debated for a long time. Main considerations are volcanic eruption, volcanic overflow, volcano extrusion or subvolcanic intrusion, etc. Based on an integrated analysis of petrology and the characteristics of facies, in combination with existed studies about erosion degree and the vertical change of density of the “porphyroclastic lava”, writers propose an intrusion genesis viewpoint, i. e. the “porphyroclastic lava” is not the production of volcanic rock, but the intrusive rock. Meanwhile, writers put out a question that whether has subvolcanic rocks in the Xiangshan area, and discuss the formation depth of the “porphyroclastic lava”. In conclusion, writers consider that the “porphyroclastic lava” should be named as porphyroclastic porphyry, which accords better with its intrusive genesis characteristics.
