The significance and characteristics of GIS and ANN techniques in the ir application to mineral resources assessment and their relationship are discussed in this paper. Then a GIS\|based SPV neural network system for the potential evaluation of mineral resources is proposed, Finally the authors introduce,taking the gold deposits in the Chencai district of Zhejiang, how the SPV neural network is used to forecast the potential gold resources on the GIS platform.
