The gem and jade resources related to volcanic action in China are clas sified into five types: ① those of mantle origin; ② of crustmantle origin; ③ of volcanic ac tion origin; ④ hydrothermal mineralization after volcanic action; and ⑤ those related to volcanic action. In this paper the authors summarize the geological a nd gemological chara cteristics of these five kinds of resources, introduce their development and loc al economic significance. In the end, the authors think it is necessary to do fu rther researches on the formation mechanism and prospecting of these resour ces in China.
