Abstract:Taking for example the Western Yunnan orogenic belt of the Honghe River-Jinsha River, this paper discusses Cenozoic intracontinental orogenic helts and their formative process. The formation of the western Yunnan orogenic belt might went through such processes as compression, ramping, planation, uplift and breakup. The present orogenic belts in China, including the Tian-shan, Qilian, Qinling-Dabie, Taihang and Yanshan orogenic belts, are mostly Cenozoic ones. The process of their formation and evolution was in the main consistent with that of the western Yunnan orogenic belt.
