Conventionally，reservoir evaluation is undertaken with an assembly——line approach，i．e．different branches of sciences gather，．process，and interpret their own data in regard of a particu—lar reservoir．Today，reservoir description technology allows scientists of all disciplines tO work CO-operatively and integrate a broad range of information tO construct a common model，and descrip—tion or change of the reservoir model is only made using new data or interpretations provided byloggingseismic surveying or production history．This paper systematically expounds the progressand present state in the study of reservoir description and introduces the process，new technologyand application result of modern reservoir description with the Zaoyuan oil field as an example．
