Analysis based on core observation, regional geological survey, drilling as well as logging data shows that braided river delta develops in Jishen 1 area, Turpan—Hami Basin in Jurassic Shuixigou Group. On the basis of sedimentary understanding, with a variety of stratigraphic correlation methods, stratigraphic correlation was conducted in this new exploration area. The result indicates that braided river delta plain and delta front develop in this area in Shuixigou Group and each subfacies corresponds to the stratigraphic unit of formation. The interface between braided river delta plain and delta front defined as the boundary for Sangonghe Formation and Badaowan Formation. and the two stable coal beds in braided river delta plain swamp microfacies are seen as the mark layer of regional stratigraphic correlation, which can control the purpose layers accurately, combined with sedimentary cycle sequence and lithology correlation, the subfacies are further classified to the stratigraphic units of member. Stratigraphic framework based on the above mentioned sedimentological interviewing was established, which could reflect sedimentary changes of strata objectively and help guide the further geological research.
