Geoanomaly could be classified into four categories: the global, the regional, t he local, and the microscopic one according to their magnitude. Some geological facts have illustrated that intercontinental oreforming domains coincide with the global geoanomalies, oreforming provinces coincide with the regional ones, ore fields (ore deposits, or bodies) coincide with local ones, and microscopic ones are extremely useful to locate buried ore bodies. To ascertain the orecontrolling relationships of the geoanomalies to oreforming terranes is an esse ntial prerequisite of application of geoanomaly principles to the location of ore body. “5P” orefinding areas advanced on the basis of geonamaly principles a re:(a) Probable oreforming area; (b) Permissable orefinding area; (c) Prefera ble orefinding area; (d)Potential mineral resource area and Perspective ore body area. The concept of“5P”orefinding areas and the quantitatively delineating and assessing methods for them are a generalization for the whole procedure of mi neral exploration. A case study on the systematic exploration and assessment of gold deposit targets from the western Shandong uplifted terrain is given to show the advantages and effects of this method for the search for various types of m ineral deposits。
