Genesis and indicative significance of hot dry rock in Matouying, Hebei Province

    Abstract:

    The discovery of the Matouying hot dry rock indicates that the Bohai Bay basin has great potential for hot dry rock exploration and development. A comprehensive analysis of the thermal control factors such as crust and mantle structure, deep faults, neotectonic and magmatic activities, heat and fluid source, as well as concave- convex tectonic pattern was undertaken. The key scientific issues of the upwelling process of deep thermal fluid, as well as the effect on the shallow- depth geothermal field and the thermal anomaly controlled by tectonism are addressed. Based on this research, the genesis of the Matouying hot dry rock is proposed: ① the destruction of the eastern North China Craton and the obvious thinning of the regional lithosphere are conducive to the heat conduction and the deep thermal materials upwelling, thus explaining the high heat flow in the Matouying uplift; the deep strike- slip fault cut through the lithosphere, low- velocity and high- conductors in the crust; ② faults in the crusts at all levels constitute a fluid channel for deep thermal matter upwelling; ③ the structural pattern of concave and convex phases contributed to the accumulation of heat flow in the shallow Matouying convex area under the comprehensive action by “thermal refraction” effect, fluid thermal convection in deep fault zones and the flow of hot fluid in the center of the depression to the surrounding uplift. The orinin mechanism of the Matouying hot dry rock has indicative significance for the exploration of hot dry rock under similar geological conditions as well as some uplifts in the Huanghua depression and Jiyang depression on the west coast of the Bohai Sea, which has great exploration potential in the depth range of 4000~6000m.
