Abstract:The provincial maps, including mineral geological and minerogenic maps, are one of the four goals of the “text, map, general and database” project in the initiative “Annals of Geology of Mineral Resources of China”. These maps should reflect the “full coverage” of 182 minerals, 18 types of deposits, multiple “subtypes”, the fivelevel mineral scale with comprehensive legends indicating metallogenic ages, and an optimized representation of minerogenetic series of mineral deposits, and geological base maps. These tasks involve complex system engineering. We propose that developing new minerogenetic series will achieve the goal of providing high quality informative maps by greatly simplifying the complicated structure of the base maps. This paper introduces the format for the two types of maps, proposes mapping ideas and methods, and focuses on both the “mineral legend design” and “base map compilation”, in order to provide highquality maps that highlight project results.
