    Abstract:

One of the major themes in the past 15 years is the succeeding resources prospecting in the Dabaoshan copper polymetallic mine in Guangdong Province. The geology, discovery, and prospecting history of the Dabaoshan porphyry copper deposits are reviewed in this paper. Steeply dipping fineveined quartz sulfide is the main ore controlling factor of Dabaoshan porphyry copper deposit. The vein body inclinations are 290°~310°, the dip angles are 65°~75°, the width of the veins is 0.5~10mm, and the average vein frequency is 22 pieces/m. A breakthrough in porphyry copper prospecting was achieved by adjusting the exploration line to 120° and drilling through the quartz sulfide vein at the greatest possible angle. The Dabaoshan dacite porphyry wall is an ultra- shallow magmatic rock which was emplaced along the Dabaoshan thrust nappe structure in the late early Jurassic (around 175 Ma). Copper mineralization intensity is closely related to beresitization of the phyllic zone, sericitization and chloritization of the porphyry copper deposit. Copper mineralization grade is 0.10%~0.60%, with an average grade of 0. 43%. The copper resource can reach a large scale deposit in the Dabaoshan dacite wall at 250m elevation. In the area fromnorth Guangdong Province tosouth Jiangxi Province a NE trending porphyry copper pollymetallic metallogenic belt related to the dacite porphyrycould beexpected where the Cu, Pb, Zn, Au, and Ag polymetallic prospecting can beundertaken.
