The sulfide characteristics and S- Pb isotopic composition of leucogranite- type uranium deposit in the Gaudeanmus area, central Damarabelt, Namibia

    Abstract:

    The leucogranite- type uranium deposit in Namibia is a world- famous intrusive rock type uranium deposit, similar to the Rssing, Husab, Gaudeanmus, Valencia deposits. The uranium minerals mainly include uraninite, coffinite, thoruraninite, pitchblende, brannerite and uranophane. The sulfides are often associated with these uranium minerals of leucogranite- type uranium deposit in Gaudeanmus area, Namibia.The trace element geochemistry, sulfur and lead isotopes of sulfides were studied in this paperto identify the genesis of sulfide and source of metallogenic materials. Results show that sulfides are mainly pyrite and pyrrhotite, vein and euhedral- granular, with a small amount of molybdenite, sphalerite, galena, chalcopyrite and bismuthine. They can be divided into two types of magmatic and hydrothermal origin, but they were derived from the same source. The average values of δ34SCDT of sulfides in the uraniferous leucogranite and strata are 0. 78‰ and -0. 95‰, respectively, and most of the δ34S values are mainly between -5‰ and 5‰. It is suggested that the granitic rocks are the primary sulfur source of sulfides in the leucogranite- type uranium deposit. The ratios of 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb of pyrite and pyrrhotite in the uraniferous leucogranite are 22. 389~26. 819, 15. 969~16. 176, 41. 342~48. 503, respectively. The ratios of 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb of pyrite and pyrrhotite in strata are 18. 520~22. 640, 15. 627~15. 928, 38. 603~40. 464, respectively. Therefore, the Pb isotope composition of sulfides shows that the ore- lead source was upper crust, indicating that metallogenic material was derived from the U- rich pre- Damara basement.
