    Abstract:

The Nima- Rongma area is located in the middle section of the Qiangtang block of the central Tibetan Plateau, which developed a large- scale thrust structures system. The regional thrusting in the north Nima moved sheets of Paleozoic to Jurassic rock relatively southward over Late Cretaceous and Tertiary strata. In addition, the Mesozoic strata in the northern Qiangtang basin thrust southward and formed thin- skinned thrusts in the southern Qiangtang basin. Moreover, Jurassic- Cretaceous and Cretaceous were thrust northward over the Cretaceous and Tertiary red beds in the southern Nima. Simultaneously, the thrust systems generally controlled the boundary of the red bed basin and are unconformably overlain by Miocene lacustrine deposits. The geochronology and apatite fission track dating further indicate that most thrust systems formed in the Late Cretaceous to early Miocene. The thrust systems began to develop in the central Qiangtang uplift belt and Bangong- Nujiang tectonic belt from late Early Cretaceous to Late Cretaceous firstly, related to the northward subduction of the Neo- Tethys ocean plate; then spread throughout in whole corridor belt until Oligocene, which related to the collisional of the Indian between Lhasa block. In addition, the east- west extension structure leads to differential uplift. The thrust system destroyed the early paleo- oil reservoirs, but the associated folding played an important role in the formation and preservation of the secondary oil- gas generation in southern Qiangtang basin. The Nima anticline as well as Triassic- Jurassic strata beneath thrust sheets of red bed near Sangliele area are important targets for oil- gas exploration.
