    Abstract:

The northern segment of the Yishu fault zone refers to the concealed tectonic area which distributes to the north of Juli, Weifang city, and its main concealed active faults play a controlling role in the development of the Quaternary System. The east segments of the Yishu fault zone are more active than the west segments. The main east branch fault is a strong activity zone of the new tectonic movement, which has a controlling effect on the occurrence of earthquakes. The spatial distribution and activity of the Anqiu- Juxian fault and the Changyi- Dadian fault of the northern segment of the Yishu fault zone were investigated through ground investigation, geophysical prospecting and drilling by the 1∶50000 regional geological survey and engineering geological survey programs carried out in the Laizhou Bay Area. The results show that the two main faults have roughly parallel distribution of NNE direction, extending into the Laizhou Bay Area. The activity of the Changyi- Dadian fault is dominated by strike- slip, together with thrust motion, and the fault dip angles are nearly vertical. The fault dip of the Changyi- Dadian fault changes at the north of the Dongzhong village, which shifts from east at the south part of the fault to west at the north part. The latest activity age of the fault is the late Pleistocene. The Anqiu- Juxian fault controls the spatial distribution of the Cenozoic strata, and is mainly west dipping normal fault since the Cenozoic Era. The fault breaks the Holocene strata significantly and causes the cracking of the surface buildings, which indicates that the fault is a Holocene active fault and is still active at present. The geological survey of this time firstly confirms the existence of the Changyi Salient, which is located between the two main east branch faults in the northern part of the fault zone. The Quaternary thickness of the salient area is thinner significantly, and the bedrock is exposed at some area. Divided by the Liutuan fault, the Quaternary underlying strata of the north part of the salient are the Minghuazhen Formation and the Guantao Formation of the Neogene, and the underlying strata of the south part of the salient are the Bamudi Formation, the Niushan Formation of the Neogene, Zhubidian Formation of the Paleogene and the Hongtuya Formation of the Cretaceous. The discovery of the Changyi Salient is of great significance to the investigation and study of hydrogeological and engineering geology in the south coast of the Laizhou Bay.
