Geochronology and Sr-Nd-Pb Isotopic Geochemistry of Ore-bearing Porphyry in the Dongwodong Copper Polymetallic Deposit, North Tibet and Their Implications for Exploration Direction

    Abstract:

    The Dongwodong copper polymetallic deposit is a newly discovered important prospect area, which is located in the southern margin of Qiangtang terrane, the western part of Bangong CoNujiang mineralization belt, near by the Duolong copper gold deposit cluster. In order to further analyze metallogenic geological conditions and prospecting potential of the Dongwodong deposit area, and based on the detail geological investigation and logging, this study carried out zircon chronology study of orebearing porphyry using ion probe (SHRIMP) and geochemical and Sr, Nd, Pb isotopic analysis using plasma mass spectrometer (ICPMS). The results indicate that the orebearing porphyry crystallization age is ca. 122Ma, suggesting it is the product of early Cretaceous metallogenic event in the Duolong deposit cluster. Sr, Nd, Pb isotopic analysis shows that initial Sr value ranges from 0.7052 to 0.7062, 143Nd/144Nd ratio from 0.512365 to 0.512409, εNd(t) from -4.05 to -3.88, 206Pb/204Pb, 207Pb/204Pb and 208Pb/204Pb are 18.691~18.823, 15.638~115.796, 38.649~38.924 respectively, revealing that the orebearing porphyry is characterized by a crustmantle mixing source and may be the juvenile crust derived from subduction environment of Bannu Ocean. After the comprehensive analysis of geological situation, geophysical (1/10000 magnetic survey and induced polarization survey) and geochemical (1/10000 stream sediment survey) exploration data, it has been concluded that the Dongwodong deposit has a good metallogenic condition and prospecting potential. It is suggested that porphyryepithermal copper polymetallic metallogenic system should be the direction for deposit exploration.
