    Abstract:

Our curvey for fault activity in the Jiujiang area found some profiles of the Quaternary contain abundant fissures. Three typical exposed profiles within fissures were chosen as researth material in this paper. Based on the analysis of stratigraphic sequence of profiles, macroscopic and microscopic characteristics of the fissure and and the distribution regularity between fissures and faults, we had found the following 4 points: ①There are many types of fissures, mostly “V” type, “inverted V” type, “Y” type, “broom” type and “straight line” type, etc. ② Fissures have fillings, which are pale, gray pale stripe, varying widths, narrow in apperpost and wide lower part,in upward pinchout, down not bottom. ③The planar distribution,PM1 is located in the NE and of the Jiujiang Dean fault, PM2 is located in the SE end of the Xiangfan Guangji fault, PM3 is located in the middle of the Liujia Fanjiapu Chengmenshan fault; the profiles within fissures position are highly correlated with regional faults distribution and historical earthquake epicenter distribution in the Jiujiang area.Meanwhile, the main faults strikes of PM1, PM2 and PM3 are NE, NW and NEE respectively, what are highly relevant to their fault strikes with a maxionun offset up to 1m. ④PM3 profile has a uaternary fault the fault occurrence 145°∠68°, shows normal fault properties, Our tempshtion stady shows that the typical fissure development in the quaternary is controlled by regional faults and earthquake epicenters, and the formation of the fissure is discovery reponse to regional fault activity and paleo earthquake event in quaternary on the surface of the Earth. The typical fissures of the quaternary of in the Jiujiang area, not only what provides a good study care to the fault activity and paleo earthquake in this area but provide a new research idea and research methods for the study of fault activity and paleo earthquake.
