    Abstract:

The loess ground fissures (Striking NN 30°~40°W and N40°~50°E) were found along the trench wall at the Machangyuan Ruins in the Minhe Basin. The red clay overlying the Majiayao (MJY) Phase Culture (5.30-4.80 ka B.P) was clearly found. Sedmentary record of palaeo-earthquake and palaeo-mudflow event were indentifited by ground fissures in loess infilled with red clay. The present work focused on luminescence dating of palaeo-earthquake and palaeo-mud flow event using the single-aliquot regenerative (SAR) protocol of coarse grain (63-90 μm) quartz at the two sampling sites. Based on dose recovery test and a clear plateau, sensitivity changes have been properly corrected. Histograms distributions of equivalent dose (De) values suggest that palaeo-mudflow deposits are incompletely bleaching. Given the dataset contains some incompletely bleached grains of palaeo-mudflow, we used an approach which is based on the difference in scatter between the sensitivity-corrected natural and the first regenerated OSL signals. Depending on all quality-control parameters indicate that the samples perform well, OSL ages are reliable. By combining OSL ages, radiocarbon ages and the archaeological record of MJY Phase Culture in the study area, the palaeo-earthquake and palaeo-mudflow event at the Bianqiangcun sites were dated to 4.92 ka B.P. These results are important in understanding OSL characteristic of palaeo-mudflow deposits and the chronology of palaeo-earthquake and palaeo-mudflow event at the Machangyuan Ruins in the Minhe Basin.
