    Abstract:

The study of the depositional environment of source rocks has extremely important significance on the exploration and development of petroleum and gas. In order to study the global distribution and optimal formation conditions of Jurassic source rocks, we use the paleomagnetic method and select 160Ma as the time node to reconstruct the global paleo plate. Furthermore, we use the technique of ARCGIS and add some updated elements such as the global tectonic setting, global current system, distribution of climate zone, lithofacies palaeogeography and distribution of source rocks in Jurassic to the map of global paleo plate reconstruction, so we draw the maps of global paleo plate reconstruction, palaeogeography, lithofacies and distribution of source rocks in Jurassic. Moreover, we collect the source rocks data of global petroliferous basins and there are 531 sets of data, 252 of which have clear kerogen type, and the main type is Ⅱ type, Ⅰand Ⅲ type kerogen is less developed. Based on the analysis of these maps, we draw conclusions that sedimentary environment, type of kerogen, climate, sea level, upwelling, tectonic movements and other factors control the formation of source rocks, and upwelling is the most important factor. The most important characteristics of global tectonics in Jurassic are the break up of Pangea, spreading of Neo Tethys and Middle Atlantic and intense volcanic activities. And under the tectonic setting, the global climate in Jurassic is mainly warm and humid. Water in the warm current areas is suitable for the survival and reproduction of marine organisms, upwelling brings nutrients from bottom to shallow, providing rich organic matter for the development of source rocks; the rising sea level and large scale sea flooding events provide favorable conditions for preservation of source rocks. Therefore, the warm current areas surrounding Neo Tethys and central Atlantic are the main distribution area of source rocks. The carbonate rocks in shallow platform, shale in passive continental margin basins and rift basins, and shale in intra continental deep lake are the main lithofacies of source rocks. The vast majority of source rocks distribute in the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Mexico, Beihai, Central Asia and the West Siberia area.
