    Abstract:

Mineraliztion outcomes are always the result of geological events and local processes, which made the orebodies’ structure complex and ore grade’s spatial distribution heterogeneous. Traditional resource estimation methods will introduce a lot of predicted errors whether in the calculation of ore amount or average grade. Geostatistical model, which was based on the assumption of regionalized variable’s spatial correlation, can take the structural and stochastic variabilities both into account and explore variable’s variability of different direction and scale by variograms. As the best optimal ubias predictor, geostatistical model can give not only best optimal estimation but also its assessment errors. By mapping proerpty to space domain, 3-D geological property model can accurately depict the spatial variability pattern and calculate the orebody volume tonage easy. For above reasons, this paper proposed a new solid reserve estimation approach by combining geostatistics and 3-D geological modeling technology. By using the boreholes and samples of Anqing copper mineral exploration, the new approach was demonstrated. During the study, rationality and uncertainty of the predicted results from punctual and block kriging methods were compared, and explaination was given for the differences from different estimation methods. The 3-D geological modeling technology’s ability of dynamic management and decision surpport for mineral exploration and development was shown. The result showed that the new approach was a scientific, intuitive and efficient methodology.
