    Abstract:

Paleozoic-Mesozoic reservoirs (oil-gas fields) in southern China are chiefly distributed at the northern margin of the central Guizhou-Xuefeng-Jiangnan uplift (mainly reservoirs of the lower Paleozoic and Sinian Dengying Formation, whose source rock is of the Lower Cambrian) and the Upper Paleozoic and Lower Triassic platform and isolated platform margins in the Nanpanjiang-Shiwandashan area (mainly Upper Paleozoic and Lower Triassic reservoirs, whose hydrocarbon came from themselves). The existent Paleozoic-Mesozoic oil-gas fields are chiefly distributed in the Sichuan basin. In view of the multi-phase tectonic transformation and complicated hydrocarbon evolution in southern China, we try to classify the Paleozoic-Mesozoic oil-gas fields into three types, i.e. primary, secondary and regenerated-hydrocarbon oil-gas reservoirs. There are very few Paleozoic-Mesozoic primary oil-gas reservoirs in southern China, and most primary reservoirs had already been destroyed into fossil pools. Most existent reservoirs in the Sichuan basin are typical secondary gas fields. The perspective exploration regions of the secondary gas fields are the Upper Carboniferous to Lower Triassic areas in the southeastern Sichuan basin and southern margin of the Dabashan Mountains, Sinian Dengying Formation and Lower Paleozoic areas on the southeastern slope of the Leshan-Longnushi uplift, the Upper Triassic and Lower Jurassic coal-related gas fields in the northwestern Sichuan basin and the northern depression of the Chuxiong basin. The perspective exploration areas of regenerated-hydrocarbon oil-gas fields are the Funing-Yancheng-Haian-Xinhua-Baoying area in the northern Jiangsu basin, Qianjiang-Xiantao-Paizhou-Well Chacan-1 area in the southern Jianghan basin, southern sag of the Poyang basin in Jiangxi. This conclusion has been already approved by the discovery of the Zhujiadun gas field in the Yancheng sag of the northern Jiangsu basin, Zhaigouwan Carboniferous gas field at the Fangdoushan anticline belt in the eastern Sichuan basin and the Kaixiantaixi oil reservoir in the southern Jianghan basin.
