Abstract:With extensive engagement of the geological prospecting and the latest prospecting achievements in western areas, the Gangdese- Southern Tibet Cu- Ag- Pb- Zn- Mo metallogenic belt has become one of the most critical resource areas in China. Combined with strategic planning and the national latest research result, this study re defined some boundaries and extended this metallogenic belt southward through selecting typical ore deposits and analyzing their geological backgrounds, and named it the Gangdese South Tibet Cu- Au- Pb- Zn- Mo metallogenic belt. The metallogenic linage for this belt has been established. Yanshanian and Himalayan periods are two main periods for mineralization in this area, forming a series of major mineral resources. The major minerals and deposit types are closely related to the complicated regional dynamic evolution. The collage of multiple island arc and basins in Gangdise experienced three tectonic mechanic transformation and complicated evolution history; therefore, it is regarded as the potential area with superior metallogenic background. The main ore types for this study area include porphyry , skarn type Cu- Mo polymetallic deposits, epithermal polymetallic mineral deposits, and others. Combined with the latest prospecting achievements, it can be concluded that this area is rich in copper, gold, zinc and molybdenum and five metallogenic prospective areas were determined, including one key inspecting area and four average areas. This has done some preparation for deploying the next inspecting work.
