Beishan is an important metallogenic belt in Northwest China with the characteristics of being rich in mineral types, diverse deposit types and large scale deposits and it has important economic value and scientific research significance. On the basis of systematically summarizing the regional geological background, main metal deposit types and metallogenic geological characteristics of important deposits, this paper comprehensively summarizes the new breakthroughs of prospecting and exploration in Beishan area in recent years. In terms of minerals and deposit types, it is proposed that Cu, Fe, Au, Pb and Zn are potential minerals and magmatic type, porphyry type, exhalaive sedimentary type and continental volcanic- subvolcanic hydrothermal type are dominant deposit types. In terms of metallogenic age, it is proposed that in addition to Variscan, attention should also be paid to Indosinian and Yanshanian mineralization and prospecting. It is proposed to take the prospecting of large and super- large deposits and high- economical deposits as the priority of the prospecting in Beishan area. The important prospecting direction in Beishan area is to focus on prospecting around and in the deep of the old mines.
