Abstract:The unique inter-dune lake group, over 100 permanent lakes, developed in the southeast of the Badain Jaran Desert. Inter-dune lake sediment cores are important climate and environment archives of the dryland, but dating inter dune lake sediment cores using radionuclide (210Pb,137Cs)challenged by extreme environment of the desert, such as low flux of radionuclide caused by rare precipitation. Two lakes, Arerjilin and Dundejilin in the southeast of the Badain Jaran Desert were chosen to drill and obtained undisturbed sediment cores for dating with 210Pb and 137Cs. Results show that: (1) reliable ages of inter-dune lake sediment cores can be obtained by radionuclide (210Pb, 137Cs) dating. (2) dating result of Core Ar-1 and Dd-1are 102±8a and 123±2a respectively based on CRS model, and sedimentation rate are ranging from 0.13 to 0.33cma-1,from 0.18 to 0.70cma-1 respectively. (3) Sedimentation rates estimated from inter-dune sediment cores increase from the central region to the margin of the desert in spatially, and average sedimentation rates ranges from 0.16 to 0.57cma-1 estimated from 7 inter dune lake sediment cores CRS ages, from 0.16 to 0.57cma-1 derived from 11 inter-dune lake sediment cores` 137Cs ages. In the future, impacted factors of the sedimentation rates of inter-dune lake sediment cores spatial varying, such as mega-dune`s barrier to inter dune lakes, 137Cs molecular diffusion even paleo-earthquake, should be pay more attention in the study in-depth and careful.
