Abstract:Based on sandbox modeling, the formation mechanism of the Daba foreland convex zone is discussed in the article. Experimental results show that multi-factors controlled the formation and evolution of the Dabashan foreland convex zone. These include pre-existing arc-shaped boundary originated in extensional setting, basement syntax at distal parts and basal décollement. Besides, the former-formed structures in extensional setting may have a significant influence on the later stuctures in compressional setting in North Dabashan. Accordingly, the formation history of the Daba foreland convex zone can be divided into 3 stages: ① primary boundary conditions formed during the Early Paleozoic extension along the northern margin of the Yangze Block; ② Middle-Late Triassic collisional orogeny which caused structural inversion and appearance of the Daba foreland convex zone; and③ Middle-Late Jurassic intra-continental orogeny which resulted in the final formation of the Daba foreland convex zone.
