Abstract:Early Precambrian basement in the Dengfeng area, central Henan Province, is mainly composed of the Neoarchaean Dengfeng Group, Palaeoproterozoic Songshan Group and Neoarchaean granitoids. The Dengfeng Group consists of amphibolite, fine-grained hornblende gneiss, fine-grained biotite gneiss and banded iron formation, and the metamorphic protolithes are basaltic and mediate-acid volcanosedimentary rocks and sediments. SHRIMP U-Pb dating of zircons from 3 meta-acid volcanic rock samples yield magmatic ages of 2.53~2.51 Ga, with some inherited zircons of 2.69~2.61 Ga. They are high in SiO2, with tDM(Nd) and εNd(t) being 2.52~2.79 Ga and 0.51~4.41, respectively. The Songshan Group is mainly composed of quartzite and schist and underwent greenschist facies metamorphism. The quartzite contains detrital zircons with a strong age peak of ~2.5 Ga, being very different from the meta-sediments of Palaeoproterozoic khondalite series in the North China Craton, in which there are many detrital zircons of 2.3~2.1 Ga. The quartzite contains the youngest detrital zircon grain with a 207Pb/206Pb age of 2.45 Ga and some grains of 3.26~2.65 Ga. The Huishanshi trondhjemite, Datashi tonalite, Lujiagou potassium granite and Shichen granite give intrusion ages of 2.55 Ga, 2.53 Ga, 2.51 Ga and 1.78 Ga, respectively. The Huishanshi trondhjemite contains some inherited zircons of 2638~2621 Ma and shows overgrowth rims of ~2.51 Ga. All the granitoids are different in element composition to each other, but are similar in Nd isotope composition, with tDM(Nd) being 2.80~2.60 Ga ( excepting the potassium granite). Based on the data got from this study and others, some conclusions can be drawn as follows: 1) The Dengfeng Group was formed at the end of Neoarchaean (2.53~2.51 Ga), a same conclusion drawn in early studies; 2) Different types of granitoids, together with the supracrustal rocks of the Dengfeng Group, were formed in a small time gap between 2.55 and 2.50 Ga. Combined with rock association and geochemical feature, the supracrustal and graniticc rocks of the Dengfeng greenstone belt are considered to be formed in a rift environment relating to underplating. 3) The Wutai and Jishan granite-greenstone belts are similar in rock association and formation age to the Dengfeng granite-greenstone belt, all probably belonging to one and the same huge belt. 4) The formation (deposit) time of the Songshan Group can be limited between 2.45 and 2.0 Ga and can be compared with the Gaofan Group (2.47~2.14 Ga) or the Hutou Group (2.14~2.08 Ga). 5) The Shichen granite is a product of intracrustal magmatism under an extensive tectonic regime changed from a compressive tectonic regime at the end of Palaeoproterozoic in the North China Craton.
